What is BYOD (bring your own device)?

Bring your own device (BYOD) is a growing trend of employees using personal devices to connect to their organizational networks and access work-related systems or intranet. Personal devices could include smartphones, laptops, personal computers, tablets, or USB drives etc.

Bring your own device (BYOD) is also referred to as bring your own technology (BYOT), bring your own phone (BYOP), and bring your own personal computer (BYOPC). However, they all mean the same thing where the employee brings their own device to work.

These are a few of the advantages of Bring your own device (BYOD):

  • Higher employee productivity
  • Increased employee job satisfaction and retention
  • Increased employee effectiveness
  • Upgraded technologies are integrated into the workplace without IT spend on hardware or device maintenance.
