- What is an enhanced DBS Check?
An Enhanced Disclosure check details all criminal history: cautions, warnings, reprimands, spent and unspent convictions held on the Police National Computer (PNC), with the exception of the DBS filtering rule. It also checks against the DBS Children and Adult barred list (where appropriate) and information provided by local police forces. This type of disclosure can only be applied for by an organisation/employer.

- How do I apply for an enhanced DBS check?
You can apply for an enhanced DBS check using our online platform which is fast and secure.
- How much is an enhanced DBS? How much is enhanced DBS 2021/2022?
All basic DBS checks, including volunteer applications, are £50 Excl. VAT. Payment can be made online with a debit or credit card.
- How long will an enhanced DBS check take?
It takes around 2 weeks, but it can take longer if the details given for the check are incorrect or several police forces need to be involved in the check. You cannot pay more to get a faster check. However, online platforms like Complaygate are much faster than paper forms.
- What information is disclosed on an enhanced DBS check?
An enhanced DBS check shows full details of an individual’s criminal record such as cautions, reprimands, warnings, spent and unspent convictions. The check also searches the DBS Children’s Barred List or the DBS Adult First checks where appropriate to ensure the applicant is not banned from working with either group. For each conviction, the following information is included in the DBS certificate:
- Date of conviction
- Court details
- Offence details
- Date of offence
- Sentence given

You can raise a dispute about the content of your enhanced DBS certificate if you believe any of the below applies:

- incorrect information regarding conviction details
- the conviction details do not belong to you
- Is there an update service for enhanced DBS?
The update service is available for enhanced DBS checks.
- Are enhanced DBS checks free?
Enhanced DBS Checks are the most detailed criminal record check offered by DBS. However, they are not free. It costs £50 Excl. VAT.
