It is the most detailed level of criminal record check available in Northern Ireland, carried out by AccessNI to help employers assess whether an individual is suitable to work in regulated activity with vulnerable groups.

It can disclose spent and unspent convictions, cautions, informed warnings and any other information a chief police officer reasonably considers relevant. Where applicable, it can also include a check against the relevant barred lists held by the Disclosure and Barring Service.

The Basic Check discloses unspent convictions only. The Standard Check includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions and certain other details. The Enhanced Check is the most detailed and can also include relevant police information and, where applicable, barred-list checks.
Yes. You can apply for an AccessNI check while living outside Northern Ireland if the position you are applying for is based in Northern Ireland.
There is no fixed renewal period. It is for the employer to decide when a new check is required, based on their own risk assessments and policies.
The employer or organisation reviews the information and decides whether it affects suitability for the role. You may be given the opportunity to provide more context or to challenge inaccurate information.
An AccessNI check is generally specific to the employer and position it was requested for. A new check is usually needed for a different role or employer, unless covered by an applicable update arrangement.
