The economy has been majorly reshaped and the labour force with the Coronavirus. There has been a considerably great difference in the way we work, where we work, and most important the use of technologies to keep in touch with each other. This has had a prompt impact around the globe.
Big changes that are happening have to lead the importance of HR’s role within companies to change and grow. This is in terms of employees going to their HR staff and managers specifically for help and guidance for the situation that we are currently facing and excite what is the “new normal”. An increased amount of employees/ workers are depending on their employers and managers due to the COVID- pandemic. The HR department has an enormous amount of responsibilities, to give some guidance and directions about skills to employees to allow them to be successful over the years as new job roles. HR job roles may change and evolve over the period of 10 years, the different trends taken into consideration are political, economic, societal, demographical, business, technology and cultural. There is an opportunity for over 60 new HR jobs, incorporating skills and responsibilities detailed within the job role to succeed at it. The following will be narrowed down to 21 job roles for the upcoming future.
Company and individual flexibility - The digital economy has expanded rapidly more than it has ever due to the Covid- 19 pandemic where people globally are to work from home. These changes have put a challenge on the seriousness and importance of health not just physically also mentally and the wellbeing of workers/ employees. This means HR departments have to put their focus on their work and employees health and wellbeing during the time on working from home. The future goal for an HR professional is to have a developed understanding of employees health, well-being as well as, emotions and the mental health of individuals. If this does not become available to employees/ workers “burnt out” can occur more regularly and this will have not only a negative impact on that individual but on the business as a whole. This is because you will be losing employees to complete the work at a good standard.
According to Forbes, 74 percent of employees will permanently continue to work from home after the COVID- 19 pandemic and crisis. Therefore, it will be essential for this role to successfully work well by ensuring that the employees get the same benefits by working home as they would be working in the office. The role will need them to make sure that the company's policies, process and technology are ideal for the employees to remotely. One of the important factors that will be needed to cover in the job role is for the employees to feel like they have some sense of belonging within the workplace. This is to make sure that the employees are aware of their purpose and have that feeling of being needed within the company.
Company safety and trust - HR departments place right now with everything going on to guide people and become the models of an ethical and reliable workforce. There may be an increasing amount of investment going towards digital transformation strategies and signify a “data culture”.
The importance and essentiality of data privacy have raised more than ever as technology is to increase. To allow fairness, explainability and accountability to be in HR departments, more systems must be put into place making sure that humans are in the loop. HR job roles could include the responsibility of ensuring that mitigate bias across the company’s functions. Overall, they make sure that employees/ workers are treated with fairness within the company and throughout their whole employee procedure. This will include the hiring process to the end of their job role, despite their race, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, background, age, economic status or culture.
Creativity and Originative (innovation) - Expanding businesses and discovering new ideas and ways of doing this is something business leaders intend to do in the middle of rapid change. The future of the work leader is a role needed to be brought into place where the role includes, the responsibility for examining and analysing what skill is the most needed within a workplace as it continues to change and evolve. Focusing on giving companies strategies for the upcoming future work tasks and bringing forward skills being to be trained or developed by the employees. Also, the job role will examine the competitive threats towards the business to create new improved jobs and skills to evolve with the current changes and staying updated.
VR Immersion Counselor’s role would be to assist with training programmes taking place virtually as training courses and meetings are all online (virtual). This role will help with measuring the reality of the number of use cases, these involve coaching, reskilling, onboarding, upskilling, safety training and medical training.
Data Literacy - Things such as discovering the performance of one team and why the other team did not perform well, or the way that a company can produce a more inclusive and diverse culture; are only carried out by a few HR departments. In the future, the other HR firms are likely to follow these HR departments, such as carrying out an increased amount of data-driven function, customer experience and finance, etc. Allowing a deeper understanding and accurate insights about employee/worker performance, etc. Another role called HR Data Detective for when data scientists are in short supply, to assist in bringing change. They will be responsible for learning management systems that are included in synthesizing disparate data streams, etc.
Partnerships with human – machines - There is an increased amount of usage of robots within companies and it has now become a necessity for them within the workplace. It can be said that robots are good at the “science” part of a job, whereas, we humans are good at assessing. For the HR job roles, this will become a task to see how these two key factors work together. In order to create seamless job tasks together for robots and humans can in the future become a job role of a Human-Machine Teaming Manager. All these jobs roles will rely on each other.
